From Transactions to Transformation
Do you ever look back at what you’ve said in the past and wonder why you said it?
I certainly do. A few years ago, I was quoted in an article saying: “Deal delivery is everything”. You see, it’s the word ‘everything’ that doesn’t really work for me and I’m not sure it did then either.
Let me explain.
On the face of it, it’s hard to disagree with the statement. After all, it is what we are probably best known for at Praetura Commercial Finance. As Mark Jenkinson, Partner of Plutus Corporate Finance put it: “What stands out in my mind is the fact that they always (and I mean always) delivered: the deal I asked for; the quantum and terms they originally proposed and; in the timescales required.”
That delivery is important has never been in any doubt. In fact, to the team at Praetura Commercial Finance, it’s absolutely critical. Getting complex deals over the line builds relationships and reputations.
We never forget that introducers and their clients rely on us to deliver what we say we will. However, I don’t know about you, but I believe it’s a pretty sad indictment that this should be regarded as such a major differentiator in the marketplace.
When we started Praetura Commercial Finance a year ago, we did so with a clear purpose in mind that we have stayed true to in all circumstances – to transform businesses through funding their ambitions.
Steve Swinden, CEO of Flamefast Group recently commented on Praetura Commercial Finance’s ability to transform a business in terms of achieving both its long – and short-term objectives: “The acquisition funded by Praetura Commercial Finance has taken us from an £11m turnover business to £19m, making our combined group a substantial player in our industry. Following the introduction of the new funding facility, we have already recorded our biggest invoicing month in the history of the company.”
All of the companies we work with are in the process of change. They are all looking to navigate the next stages of growth whether it is a refinance, acquisition, management buyout or buy in. The way I see it, we are here to enable positive and lasting change, far beyond the initial transaction.
This involves listening to our clients continually, from the moment they have been introduced to us and immersing ourselves in their world. It’s about structuring deals with sustainability in mind, building long-term relationships and thinking way beyond the initial transaction – asking the question, ‘What’s next’. Ultimately, it is about outcomes, not just execution.
So, I guess what I’m really saying here is “Deal delivery is just the start.”
